Our Way…What Does It Take?

What is the vital requirement for a couple preparing to take off on a land yacht navigation of America? Compatibility. I’m not talking 35 years of marriage where both had separate careers (and friends), but perhaps spent four hours a working day, tops, relating with each other. Vagabonding in a motor home is a 24 / 7 thing. You had both better be sold on the idea of traveling-on, living in what could be a confining space.

Think you can “work things out” as you tick off miles? Or, that once she/he gets a taste of freedom that they will “love” the life. Good luck. Here are our suggestions as to what is needed.

A tidy bowl person

Living/traveling in limited space requires an organization you might not have needed in a 1, 400 square foot ranch house. Why? You need to know
right now— where the flashlight is kept, or tape, or screwdriver. You need to have stuff stowed properly when moving, or risk having something fall out of a cabinet on your head.

You need to attend to “black water” management, or expect plumbing odors. You need to — well there are so many needs here that it almost is impossible for one half of a couple to do all the chores. You don’t have an on-board dishwasher? Yes you do fella... you. (continued next page)
